Hi, my name is Glenn Kugelman. I go to C.S.I.H.S.I.S. as a sophomore so; when we do the exchange I will be a junior. In school my favorite class is Gym and Statistics. Gym is my favorite because I like sports. I like Statistics because math comes easy to me. Also out of the math classes I have taken so far I find that the one I will most likely use after school is Statistics. However, in English I like the current unit we are doing which is poetry. I don’t really like History because I find it pretty boring cause it seems to just talk about wars which is boring, in my opinion, after you learn about one or two. I like Japanese too because it gives me the chance to travel to Japan where I can get technological things like lap tops, cameras, and video games for cheaper prices. I also enjoy Science because I would like to be a doctor when I grow up. I am 15 years old. I live in a 3-story house with my mom, dad, older brother, mini dachshund, and parakeet. My mom’s name is Maxine and she is a Para. My mom likes running and shopping. My dad’s name is Howard and he drives a taxi. My dad loves baseball and cars. My brother’s name is David. He is a senior in another local high school Port Richmond. This September he will be attending University of Pittsburgh’s pre-med program unless he is accepted to SUNY Binghamton. My brother likes hanging out with his friends, playing sports, working out, running, and cycling. In my spare time I enjoy doing many things. Like most teenagers I know I enjoy playing sports, hanging out with friends, and playing video games. I enjoy going out to various places with my friends whether, it’s the mall or into Manhattan. When I go to Manhattan I normally shop there. I love basketball in my spare time but am not too good due to me being short. I enjoy playing tennis too. I also, recently learned how to skateboard due to Dylan who is another American student going on the exchange to Switzerland. I like playing my XBOX 360 in my spare time. My favorite game for it is “Call of Duty 4” or “Gears of War 2“. Some people would say I am “addicted to” or have an “obsession” with sneakers however, it’s more of a business because I sell them on the internet or to local people I know. My favorite actors are Adam Sandler and Will Smith. My favorite thing to watch on TV is sports. Other than that I don’t really watch TV. My favorite poet is probably Tupac Shakur. My favorite novel is "Maus" by Art Speigelman. I would say my favorite kind of music is hip-hop but I listen to anything really except for heavy metal. I don’t really have a favorite music group but I like Lil’ Wayne, Kanye West, and John Mayer the most. My favorite two favorite foods to eat for dinner are steaks and chicken fingers. I also like pizza, Chinese food, pasta, other Italian foods, Nathan’s which is a hot dog place, hamburgers, chips and salsa, Doritos, pretzels, popcorn, donuts, and probably any fast food chain you can think of, especial McDonalds. My favorite restaurants are Applebee’s and Red Robins. Applebee’s serves all kinds of American food. Red Robins specializes in hamburgers.

I want to be either a pilot or an Air Traffic Controller when I graduate. I have personally flown an airplane in New Jersey and I am preparing to get my license at age 16. Hello from Staten Island! I'm Samantha and currently a freshman at CSI: High School for International Studies. I'm FULL Filipino :] w00t! I live in a small house on a quiet street with my mom (Maria), dad (Ronaldo), and my little sister Victoria. I am 14 years YOUNG. People say I look a lot older than I really am, but I can't blame them. My birthday is December 30, 1994 (I know I'm very young).
Wow. Trying to sum everything about me isn't easy. And the whole exchange thing is getting me excited... even though the exchange is about a year away, haha.
During my free time (which I barely have anymore, ugh), I like to dance, listen to music, hang out with my friends, and try new things. I'm on the track team (or club) and also a cheeleader at my school. Don't let the cheerleader and dancer thing take your mind into thinking I'm a totally girly-girl, because indeed - you're wrong. I am my own person; I'm the girl you'll see in baggy sweatpants one day and in a miniskirt the next day (just an example).
My grades are good in school (praise the Lord). My favorite subjects are Global History, Global Technology (had that last semester and passed!), and Gym. I'm a very busy person, but I can sneak time into my schedule for family and friends. Right now, I'm challenging myself and taking a College Now course in Economics 101 (sheesh, it sure is challenging).
Ever since I graduated middle school, I told myself that I'd (wo)man up to new things. This will be my first exchange, and I'm really excited. My grandma and uncle are the big travelers in the family, and I want to keep that going. As I mentioned earlier, I run track. I've never done it before. Right now, I'm trying to find new ways to get in shape in time for summer, or even spring break! When I made the decision to try new things, I'm pretty dang glad I did, or else I'd still be that quiet girl in the corner.
Call me crazy, but I can't go a day without music. Even if it's only one song, I HAVE to listen to something. Music helps me control my emotions when I'm going through a tough time. Sometimes I like to play music because I'm too hyper and need something to jam out to. (i.e. I'm listening to techno right now. My iPod's on shuffle.) Some of my favorite bands are Mayday Parade, All Time Low, 3OH!3, and NeverShoutNever!. Introduce me to a new song that has a catchy beat and good lyrics like these people do, I'll be your best friend :D
I love to make new friends, so put it this way, I can't wait to meet everyone over there in Switzerland. I'm a very calm person at times, and there will be times when you'll wonder how crazy I can be. Haha. Alot of people think I seem like a negative person when they first meet me, but don't judge a book by it's cover! EVER! I'm very nice, I won't bite (I promise). I'm not a very judgmental person, but I have "those" days (even though I try my best not to). Also, I like to give advice. I want to solve problems, not create them.
Might I add before I end this... I don't know where I am in life; neither to I intend to find out (I have NO clue whatsoever what I want to be when I grow up). I believe that if I do, my mind will limit me to trying new things and taking chances, but that's only for now :] I live on the morals that life is unpredictable, it can lead you anywhere, and you learn in life that you have to roll with the punches until you find out where those bruises lead you. Learn from mistakes, and don't take things for granted.

Hello ^__^ My name is Nicole, and I'm a fifteen-year-old oddball who enjoys lots of unusual things. I've been riding horses from the age of five, and it pretty much consumes my life. In my spare time I'm an utter literature fanatic. I do have some highbrow tastes (Nietzsche, Sarte) but I also love scifi, manga, and fanfiction. I memorize poetry for fun, and the best Christmas present I've ever gotten was from my friend Lauren: the complete works of William Shakespeare. I love having interesting conversations. I'm open to anything, and usually opt to take the more adventurous route. I plan on going skydiving one day. My room is painted entirely coca-cola red (with white trim), so i suppose your could say it's my favorite color, but I love them all. I like DIY projects and sewing, and I think found art is awesome. I also love art noveau. :) Since people stereotype by musical preferences, I'll admit that I listen to anything I find intriguing(be it country or J-pop, Handel or heavy metal). My favorite band is Pink Floyd, though. I don't watch very much TV, but I have to say that I find the series Rome quite amazing, as well as That 70s Show. I haven't seen that many movies, either, but I do like Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I enjoy old movies, like A Night at the Opera, and I love Danny Kaye. I'm rather strange :D I am a great camping enthusiast, and I frequently go hiking, but I have absolutely no sense of direction. I like to think I have a sense of humor :) but it may just be wishful thinking. I'm just looking to meet interesting people and learn from them. I never turn down the chance to try something new... I love to go for sushi and order the strangest sounding item off the menu - and so far it's never turned out to be something I didn't like. Hey, what’s up? I’m Dylan and I am currently a sophomore in C.S.I.H.S.I.S. and will become a junior in the fall of 2009. I am currently fifteen years old and turn sixteen on December 27th. I admit that I am a little bit crazy but its all part of me. I have a slight obsession with music and I have unique taste in it. My favorite artists at the moment are Eminem, All time low, blink-182, Asher Roth, and Senses Fail. I have many hobbies but primarily skateboarding. I’m not that great but I still skate, it’s more of a thrill then anything else. I have two brothers, one older brother whose name is Jesse and a younger brother who is named Dalton. I live in a two story house with four bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. I also play many sports such as baseball or paintball. I enjoy being with my friends rather then my family because I am the more outgoing sibling and because of that I get into arguments with my brothers. In addition I play video games on my Xbox 360 such as Gears of War 2 or any of the Call of Duty Games. Hello my name Michael Allen Grigoli. I live in the wonderful location of Staten Island. I go to C.S.I.H.S.I.S. and I am currently a sophomore but during the exchange I will be a junior in high school. I am 15 years old an d my birthday is October 16th 1993. Hello(: I’m Vanessa and I am a sophomore at C.S.I.H.S.I.S. I am extremely excited to meet all of you participating in the exchange, especially since it’s my first time participating in one myself. I’m turning 16 on May 5, which is great since I can get my permit finally(: My day after school usually revolves around going outside and hanging out with some of my friends in my neighborhood. I am friends with the most fun people I know and I do admit we can be crazy at times, but you can be the judge of that when you have the opportunity to meet some of them. Besides that however, music is also a big part of my daily routine. At the moment, you can catch me listening to The Killers, Motion City, The Radio Department, and a whole bunch of other bands. I am also a pretty good artist if I do say so myself. I enjoy drawing in my free time, which hasn’t been often, but it is very relaxing. I guess I get it from my mom who is a fantastic artist(: Currently she is a stay home mom, which is pretty nice having her around most of the time, while my dad is a pharmacist at a few different places he goes to throughout the week. In addition to my parents, I also have a younger sister, Emily, who is 9 years old and an older sister, Katelyn, who is 19. You probably won’t see my older sister around too often though since she is attending college in PA. Sydney is the newest addition to our family, which is my pet cat. He is simply adorable and is so playful, I love him!(: Anyway, I’ll fill you in a little more about C.S.I. Some of my most favorite classes are art, English, math, and gym. Art has always been one of my favorite classes, while English and math are starting to grow on me. Recently in English we have been writing poetry which has been a lot of fun and we just had a Poetry Slam, where we all performed the poems we have been writing over the last few weeks. Gym is also a favorite, mostly because we get a chance in the day to run around and play sports, my personal favorites being badminton and volleyball. After school I also get a chance to play volleyball, since we just got a new club for it. I’m pretty good and I’m so excited for us to become an actual team since I think we are all pretty good at the game. Some other things you should know about me is that I love cooking. Me and my friends cook all sorts of things, from Spanish food to Italian food. Some of my favorite foods are pizza, of course, and penne with vodka sauce. However when we are lazy, there are many great restaurants around our neighborhood that we go to, such as, Marie’s, Café Milano’s, and even Wagner College since it is right up the hill. The mall also has some pretty nice places to eat, besides the many stores there. Some of my favorite stores are H&M and American Eagle. I haven’t been shopping too often recently because of school and my lack of money at the moment, but it just gives me another reason to look forward to my birthday. Hey everyone :) My name is Paulina and I go to CSI High School for International Studies. I am 15 years old and turning 16 all the way in August, which of course is during the summer vacation ;). I like to play volleyball and I've joined the team in school, in my spare time however I like to go running since it has a very empowering yet soothing effect on you. The area I live in is very green and lively with lots of parks ( those of which I run to ) as well as plenty of kids whom I hang out with. In my spare time I like to hang out with my friends whom mean the world to me as well as shop in places like American Eagle and Urban Outfitters. My friends are a very fun group to be around and you can always see us laughing at something but we do take like seriously when the time calls for it. As for music, I play the piano and have been doing so since I was eight but I'm always listening to every type of music on my iPod. It can range from pop,techno, alternative and so on. Hello my name is Matthew Taylor. I’m a 14-year-old freshman from CSIHSIS. I was adopted at birth from San Antonio, Texas and am German/Spanish. However the family that adopted me is all Italian/Irish. I love to play sports like Soccer, Basketball, Tennis, and Track. I live up the block from a private baseball field, and I love to go watch games with my friends in the summer. However I can often be found on the Internet whether on my Blackberry phone or Laptop either researching things for school or playing games like “World of Warcraft”. My dream is to travel to Germany and take architecture classes in the Munich University of Technology and then living in Germany. Right now I take as many classes in Math, Art, and Engineering so hopefully one day I can get in. Another thing is that I love to draw. I draw many different things from buildings to fictional characters in the books I try to write. One last thing about me is that I love to bike ride. Hi everyone, my name is Jasmin. I'm from Winterthur, Switzerland. I'm 17 years old and I go to the Kantonsschule Im Lee. I like to go to school, because I think it's very varied. Each hour, you have another subject, well, of course I don't like every subject. For example math: I just don't get it sometimes and then I'm desperate because we have to write a test about it, but very often I'm lucky and I get a sufficient mark. What I like is Music and languages. I love to sing in the chorus of our school, but also in class. I always loved languages because I'm good with it.In school I learn Spanish, French, English and I chose also Latin.I think it's very useful in life if you can speak many languages. I love to travel, so it's good when I can speak many languages.
In my free time I love to listen to the radio. I listen every style of music even classic. I also like to read, specially crimes and phantasy. I play the violin now for 6 years, but I'm not the most talented person. :-P

hey there! My name is Dominique, I'm a girl (haha, it feels stupid to have to mention this but I've had enough weird experiences with my name) and I'm 19 years old. That might seem quite old to you, but don't worry, I'm not as mature as I should be xD. I live in a small village outside Winterthur with my sister Leandra(13) and my mother Julie. There's a river 500 metres from our flat where I enjoy having picnics in summer and which we sometimes go down in rubber boats, what's a lot of fun. In my spare time I like to read a lot, hang out with friends, watch movies, travel, listen to music, play video games on the xbox and wii (for example Fable 2, Mario Kart), cook etc.
I love fleamarkets and second-hand shops, there's a fleamarket in Winterthur every two weeks in summer and I'm there a lot. I'm also interested in photography and at the moment I'm working through a coursebook for photoshop, because I want to be able to work on the photos I've taken.
I speak English fluently, because my mum's from England, but I'm a bit out of practice unfortunately. I also speak French and Spanish because of school. Musicwise I'm not really into the usual charts stuff, I like Rock/Pop, for example Brand New, Muse, The Killers; but also Alternative/Folk, like Bob Dylan, Bright Eyes, Beirut, Laura Marling. My favourite TV-series are Scrubs, Grey's Anatomy, The Simpsons and South Park.
Some people say I've got a strange humour, and I can be very hyper, but that's just me. I mess around a lot and make weird jokes but I also like to have serious discussions and philosophize.

My mother, Sarah, is an occupational therapist and she's American. I also have a 14 year old brother called Nicholas who enjoys getting in as much trouble as possible. About me: My hobbies are riding, reading, playing the flute and hanging out with friends. I've been riding for 7 years at an average of two times weekly. Hi! My name is Floyd. I live in Thalheim wich is a small village with about 700 inhabitants near Winterthur. I'm 16 and become 17 on the 2. July . My main hobby is horse riding. Currently i'm training a 4 years old mare. But the last few years I competed quite succesfully at show jumping compettions. My other hobbies are cooking, reading and working on various things at the computer(3D-modelling, programming ect.). I also enjoy snowboarding during winter.
I live in an old framhouse together with my parents, my sister(14), a dog, two cats, 4 horses, and some fish. Most of the time after school and on weekends I spend riding or doing the stable.
I would describe myself as a rather good student. My favourite subjects are math and physics. I often do my homework during the lunch break so I have more time for my hobbies at home.
I also like going to the cinema. Although i live near Winterthur I rather go to Zurich which is the biggest city of Switzerland and 20 minutes further away than Winterthur.
I like a lot of different music styles. My favourite musician is Santana.
I've got a rather special character. I would describe myself as humorous, quite straightforward and confident. Some people tend to call me arrogant and inconsiderate but i think that's exaggerated. :P

Hello everyone! I'm Gina and attend the Kantonsschule Im Lee. I am so excited to come to NY in fall and meet all of you. I am currently 16, will become 17 in fall. I find it quite hard to describe my own character, but I'd say I am spontaneous, outgoing, sportive, open-minded, a little messy and tardy and 'almost' always to have for a joke:D I love to hang out with my friends and my family. To which belong my 2 older sisters, Alessandra(who'll also be coming to NY, as she is in the same class as I am) and Tatjana. Her boyfriend practically belongs to the family too, as he's almost always around. Then there are my parents: Yvonne and Ruedi. My entire family loves to travel and I personally would love to visit the whole world one day:D Now concerning school I'd consider myself a minimalist, but as long as my grades get me into the next level I'm fine with it. My favourite subjects are geography and languages. In my free time I go jogging, play the violin, go dancing(jazz) and meet my friends and at the weekend I love to party, or just chill at someone's house or outside or go to cinema. Whereas movies are also a big passion of mine. My all time favourite is Sleepless in Seattle and I love series like Sex and the CIty. Hey guys! I'm Lucy and I'm 18! I live in Winterthur with my two younger brothers and my mother in a flat. We have a dog and a cat.
I love to travel, and I've been to a couple of countries like USA, South Afria, France, just to mention a few. The best thing I like is, that each place has its own curiousities and traditions.
Our class is an immersion class, that means, we have some subjects in English. at beginning it was a little weird, but you get used to it.
My favourite subjects are singing and arts. I also have piano lessons and I played violin for 9 years, but I got bored of it, so I stopped. Maybe I'll start again. Anyway, next t0oo music, I love reading. Sometimes, I can't get my nose out of the books.
I'm born in Guatemala, a neighbour country of Mexico, and very proud of it. Because of that, I speak fluent Spanish. With my mother we only talk in Spanish, this way, we don't forget our language. I love learning new languages. the only thing I don't really like is learning the vocabulary, but there's no way to get round it, if you want to learn it, right?

I'm 16 now but by the time of the exchange I'll be 17. I'm really looking forward to coming to New York because I LOVE travelling. Up to now my favorite destinaitons have been the states, Kenya and Thailnad but I like going absolutly anywhere. When I'm older I'd love to take a round-the -world trip.
When I was in 3rd grade my family moved to Chicago for 2 1/2 years, it was fantastic! I got to know the US a bit better and I loved it, so I'm really exited about coming to NY.
I live in a small sleepy village with my parents, my younger brother Pascal (13) and my cat. Our house isn't huge but it's got a nice little back yard with a small pool which is great because I love swimming.
In my free time I like going ouside to read or meet friends. I also like to bake but my cooking skills still need some pratice... Hello everyone I'm Katharina Henggeler (16). I live with my younger brother and my parents in a small attached house 10 min (by bicycle) from Winterthur city. We have a cute cat that I love very much, just like all other animals (except those that have less than two legs). So I’ve been riding horses since I was 11 years old and I really can’t imagine quitting it. Especially since two of our mares are in foal right now – one might even have already given birth by now. My other favourite places beside the stable are the library and the beach. I read every book that I come across (and if it fits my taste (novels, detective stories and manga) a little bit). But there are only two books that I’ve read twice: Twilight and another one but I can’t remember its name anymore. I don’t watch TV that often but my favourite movie right now (it changes all the time) is Pirates of the Caribbean – The Curse of the Black Pearl. The beach (actually everywhere near the sea) is one of my favourite places because its windy, I like the smell and I like swimming and especially diving in the sea. The waves calm me down and make me feel like everything around me is unimportant So I’m really looking forward to come to New York and to get to know how live is on the other side of the ocean. And of course to make friends, too.

I’m Sandrine. I’m a sixteen years (but I'll turn seventeen this June) and live together with my parents, my younger sister and our cat in a flat in a village near Winterthur.
Now some things about me: I think I’m an open-minded, cheerful and optimistic person who likes laughing and having fun. My friends and family are very important to me. Me and my friends are doing all different kinds of things together. We go out partying, chill at home, watch a movie, cook and bake together, go to the cinema and always laugh and have a lot of fun. We also like going to Zurich. We chill near the lake, go to Starbucks and go shopping. With my friends I also share the affection for “sex and the city”. I've been dancing my whole life. I started dancing when I was six years old. During the years I’ve tried many different types of dance and at the moment I’m dancing ballet, jazz and a mix between hiphop and jazz. I’d love to take a course in Latin-American dance or Salsa. But I also like other types of sport for example playing volleyball, go on a bicycle tour, … You can have me for lots of different sports.
Like lots of you I also love travelling. My dream job would be a work where I can travel a lot and also have contacts with lots of people all over the world.

Hi, my name is Glenn Kugelman. I go to C.S.I.H.S.I.S. as a sophomore so; when we do the exchange I will be a junior. In school my favorite class is Gym and Statistics. Gym is my favorite because I like sports. I like Statistics because math comes easy to me. Also out of the math classes I have taken so far I find that the one I will most likely use after school is Statistics. However, in English I like the current unit we are doing which is poetry. I don’t really like History because I find it pretty boring cause it seems to just talk about wars which is boring, in my opinion, after you learn about one or two. I like Japanese too because it gives me the chance to travel to Japan where I can get technological things like lap tops, cameras, and video games for cheaper prices. I also enjoy Science because I would like to be a doctor when I grow up.

My dad’s name is Howard and he drives a taxi. My dad loves baseball and cars. My brother’s name is David. He is a senior in another local high school Port Richmond. This September he will be attending University of Pittsburgh’s pre-med program unless he is accepted to SUNY Binghamton. My brother likes hanging out with his friends, playing sports, working out, running, and cycling.
In my spare time I enjoy doing many things. Like most teenagers I know I enjoy playing sports, hanging out with friends, and playing video games. I enjoy going out to various places with my friends whether, it’s the mall or into Manhattan. When I go to Manhattan I normally shop there. I love basketball in my spare time but am not too good due to me being short. I enjoy playing tennis too. I also, recently learned how to skateboard due to Dylan who is another American student going on the exchange to Switzerland. I like playing my XBOX 360 in my spare time. My favorite game for it is “Call of Duty 4” or “Gears of War 2“. Some people would say I am “addicted to” or have an “obsession” with sneakers however, it’s more of a business because I sell them on the internet or to local people I know.
My favorite actors are Adam Sandler and Will Smith. My favorite thing to watch on TV is sports. Other than that I don’t really watch TV. My favorite poet is probably Tupac Shakur. My favorite novel is "Maus" by Art Speigelman. I would say my favorite kind of music is hip-hop but I listen to anything really except for heavy metal. I don’t really have a favorite music group but I like Lil’ Wayne, Kanye West, and John Mayer the most.
My favorite two favorite foods to eat for dinner are steaks and chicken fingers. I also like pizza, Chinese food, pasta, other Italian foods, Nathan’s which is a hot dog place, hamburgers, chips and salsa, Doritos, pretzels, popcorn, donuts, and probably any fast food chain you can think of, especial McDonalds. My favorite restaurants are Applebee’s and Red Robins. Applebee’s serves all kinds of American food. Red Robins specializes in hamburgers.

Hello from Staten Island! I'm Samantha and currently a freshman at CSI: High School for International Studies. I'm FULL Filipino :] w00t! I live in a small house on a quiet street with my mom (Maria), dad (Ronaldo), and my little sister Victoria. I am 14 years YOUNG. People say I look a lot older than I really am, but I can't blame them. My birthday is December 30, 1994 (I know I'm very young).
ReplyDeleteWow. Trying to sum everything about me isn't easy. And the whole exchange thing is getting me excited... even though the exchange is about a year away, haha.
During my free time (which I barely have anymore, ugh), I like to dance, listen to music, hang out with my friends, and try new things. I'm on the track team (or club) and also a cheeleader at my school. Don't let the cheerleader and dancer thing take your mind into thinking I'm a totally girly-girl, because indeed - you're wrong. I am my own person; I'm the girl you'll see in baggy sweatpants one day and in a miniskirt the next day (just an example).
My grades are good in school (praise the Lord). My favorite subjects are Global History, Global Technology (had that last semester and passed!), and Gym. I'm a very busy person, but I can sneak time into my schedule for family and friends. Right now, I'm challenging myself and taking a College Now course in Economics 101 (sheesh, it sure is challenging).
Ever since I graduated middle school, I told myself that I'd (wo)man up to new things. This will be my first exchange, and I'm really excited. My grandma and uncle are the big travelers in the family, and I want to keep that going. As I mentioned earlier, I run track. I've never done it before. Right now, I'm trying to find new ways to get in shape in time for summer, or even spring break! When I made the decision to try new things, I'm pretty dang glad I did, or else I'd still be that quiet girl in the corner.
Call me crazy, but I can't go a day without music. Even if it's only one song, I HAVE to listen to something. Music helps me control my emotions when I'm going through a tough time. Sometimes I like to play music because I'm too hyper and need something to jam out to. (i.e. I'm listening to techno right now. My iPod's on shuffle.) Some of my favorite bands are Mayday Parade, All Time Low, 3OH!3, and NeverShoutNever!. Introduce me to a new song that has a catchy beat and good lyrics like these people do, I'll be your best friend :D
I love to make new friends, so put it this way, I can't wait to meet everyone over there in Switzerland. I'm a very calm person at times, and there will be times when you'll wonder how crazy I can be. Haha. Alot of people think I seem like a negative person when they first meet me, but don't judge a book by it's cover! EVER! I'm very nice, I won't bite (I promise). I'm not a very judgmental person, but I have "those" days (even though I try my best not to). Also, I like to give advice. I want to solve problems, not create them.
Might I add before I end this... I don't know where I am in life; neither to I intend to find out (I have NO clue whatsoever what I want to be when I grow up). I believe that if I do, my mind will limit me to trying new things and taking chances, but that's only for now :] I live on the morals that life is unpredictable, it can lead you anywhere, and you learn in life that you have to roll with the punches until you find out where those bruises lead you. Learn from mistakes, and don't take things for granted.
Can't wait till I meet everyone in October!

In my spare time I'm an utter literature fanatic. I do have some highbrow tastes (Nietzsche, Sarte) but I also love scifi, manga, and fanfiction. I memorize poetry for fun, and the best Christmas present I've ever gotten was from my friend Lauren: the complete works of William Shakespeare.

My room is painted entirely coca-cola red (with white trim), so i suppose your could say it's my favorite color, but I love them all. I like DIY projects and sewing, and I think found art is awesome. Since people stereotype by musical preferences, I'll admit that I listen to anything I find intriguing(be it country or J-pop, Handel or heavy metal). My favorite band is Pink Floyd, though.
I don't watch very much TV, but I have to say that I find the series Rome quite amazing, as well as That 70s Show. I haven't seen that many movies, either, but I do like Tim Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas and Monty Python and the Holy Grail. I enjoy old movies, like A Night at the Opera, and I love Danny Kaye. I'm rather strange :D
I am a great camping enthusiast, and I frequently go hiking, but I have absolutely no sense of direction. I like to think I have a sense of humor :) but it may just be wishful thinking.
I'm just looking to meet interesting people and learn from them. I never turn down the chance to try something new... I love to go for sushi and order the strangest sounding item off the menu - and so far it's never turned out to be something I didn't like. Hey, what’s up? I’m Dylan and I am currently a sophomore in C.S.I.H.S.I.S. and will become a junior in the fall of 2009. I am currently fifteen years old and turn sixteen on December 27th. I admit that I am a little bit crazy but its all part of me. I have a slight obsession with music and I have unique taste in it. My favorite artists at the moment are Eminem, All time low, blink-182, Asher Roth, and Senses Fail. I have many hobbies but primarily skateboarding. I’m not that great but I still skate, it’s more of a thrill then anything else. I have two brothers, one older brother whose name is Jesse and a younger brother who is named Dalton. I live in a two story house with four bedrooms and 1.5 bathrooms. I also play many sports such as baseball or paintball. I enjoy being with my friends rather then my family because I am the more outgoing sibling and because of that I get into arguments with my brothers. ReplyDeleteHello(: I’m Vanessa and I am a sophomore at C.S.I.H.S.I.S. I am extremely excited to meet all of you participating in the exchange, especially since it’s my first time participating in one myself. I’m turning 16 on May 5, which is great since I can get my permit finally(: My day after school usually revolves around going outside and hanging out with some of my friends in my neighborhood. I am friends with the most fun people I know and I do admit we can be crazy at times, but you can be the judge of that when you have the opportunity to meet some of them. Besides that however, music is also a big part of my daily routine. At the moment, you can catch me listening to The Killers, Motion City, The Radio Department, and a whole bunch of other bands. I am also a pretty good artist if I do say so myself. I enjoy drawing in my free time, which hasn’t been often, but it is very relaxing. I guess I get it from my mom who is a fantastic artist(: Currently she is a stay home mom, which is pretty nice having her around most of the time, while my dad is a pharmacist at a few different places he goes to throughout the week. In addition to my parents, I also have a younger sister, Emily, who is 9 years old and an older sister, Katelyn, who is 19. You probably won’t see my older sister around too often though since she is attending college in PA. Sydney is the newest addition to our family, which is my pet cat. ReplyDeleteAnyway, I’ll fill you in a little more about C.S.I. Some of my most favorite classes are art, English, math, and gym. Art has always been one of my favorite classes, while English and math are starting to grow on me. Recently in English we have been writing poetry which has been a lot of fun and we just had a Poetry Slam, where we all performed the poems we have been writing over the last few weeks. Gym is also a favorite, mostly because we get a chance in the day to run around and play sports, my personal favorites being badminton and volleyball. After school I also get a chance to play volleyball, since we just got a new club for it. I’m pretty good and I’m so excited for us to become an actual team since I think we are all pretty good at the game.
Some other things you should know about me is that I love cooking. Me and my friends cook all sorts of things, from Spanish food to Italian food. Some of my favorite foods are pizza, of course, and penne with vodka sauce. However when we are lazy, there are many great restaurants around our neighborhood that we go to, such as, Marie’s, Café Milano’s, and even Wagner College since it is right up the hill. The mall also has some pretty nice places to eat, besides the many stores there. Some of my favorite stores are H&M and American Eagle. I haven’t been shopping too often recently because of school and my lack of money at the moment, but it just gives me another reason to look forward to my birthday. Hey everyone :) My name is Paulina and I go to CSI High School for International Studies. I am 15 years old and turning 16 all the way in August, which of course is during the summer vacation ;). I like to play volleyball and I've joined the team in school, in my spare time however I like to go running since it has a very empowering yet soothing effect on you. The area I live in is very green and lively with lots of parks ( those of which I run to ) as well as plenty of kids whom I hang out with. In my spare time I like to hang out with my friends whom mean the world to me as well as shop in places like American Eagle and Urban Outfitters. My friends are a very fun group to be around and you can always see us laughing at something but we do take like seriously when the time calls for it. As for music, I play the piano and have been doing so since I was eight but I'm always listening to every type of music on my iPod. It can range from pop,techno, alternative and so on. I play the flute, the guitar, and the bagpipes this is why music is one of my favorite classes. I enjoy listening to all kinds of music from classical to Rock or Screamo. I like Chinese because I love to learn new languages when I graduate I hope to fluent in Chinese, another language that I speak is French. I speak French fluently because I lived in Quebec, Canada for four years. I love to travel, my favorite places that I have been to is, everywhere. Hello my name is Matthew Taylor. I’m a 14-year-old freshman from CSIHSIS. I was adopted at birth from San Antonio, Texas and am German/Spanish. However the family that adopted me is all Italian/Irish. I love to play sports like Soccer, Basketball, Tennis, and Track. I live up the block from a private baseball field, and I love to go watch games with my friends in the summer. However I can often be found on the Internet whether on my Blackberry phone or Laptop either researching things for school or playing games like “World of Warcraft”.
ReplyDeleteMy dream is to travel to Germany and take architecture classes in the Munich University of Technology and then living in Germany. Right now I take as many classes in Math, Art, and Engineering so hopefully one day I can get in. Another thing is that I love to draw. I draw many different things from buildings to fictional characters in the books I try to write.
One last thing about me is that I love to bike ride. Its my favorite mode of transportation and will often ride to friends houses instead of having a parent drive me.

ReplyDeleteI'm 17 years old and I go to the Kantonsschule Im Lee. I like to go to school, because I think it's very varied. Each hour, you have another subject, well, of course I don't like every subject. For example math: I just don't get it sometimes and then I'm desperate because we have to write a test about it, but very often I'm lucky and I get a sufficient mark. What I like is Music and languages. I love to sing in the chorus of our school, but also in class. I always loved languages because I'm good with it.In school I learn Spanish, French, English and I chose also Latin.I think it's very useful in life if you can speak many languages. I love to travel, so it's good when I can speak many languages.
In my free time I love to listen to the radio. I listen every style of music even classic. I also like to read, specially crimes and phantasy.
I play the violin now for 6 years, but I'm not the most talented person. :-P
Well, about my family: I have two sisters, one is very chaotic. Her name is Taina, she's 12 years old.Jana, my youngest sister is 7 years old, and she likes to be in the centre of attention and it's often very funny if she TRIES to get the attention.:-)She does the wildest things!!

hey there! My name is Dominique, I'm a girl (haha, it feels stupid to have to mention this but I've had enough weird experiences with my name) and I'm 19 years old. That might seem quite old to you, but don't worry, I'm not as mature as I should be xD.
ReplyDeleteI live in a small village outside Winterthur with my sister Leandra(13) and my mother Julie. There's a river 500 metres from our flat where I enjoy having picnics in summer and which we sometimes go down in rubber boats, what's a lot of fun.
In my spare time I like to read a lot, hang out with friends, watch movies, travel, listen to music, play video games on the xbox and wii (for example Fable 2, Mario Kart), cook etc.
I love fleamarkets and second-hand shops, there's a fleamarket in Winterthur every two weeks in summer and I'm there a lot.
I'm also interested in photography and at the moment I'm working through a coursebook for photoshop, because I want to be able to work on the photos I've taken.
I speak English fluently, because my mum's from England, but I'm a bit out of practice unfortunately. I also speak French and Spanish because of school.
Musicwise I'm not really into the usual charts stuff, I like Rock/Pop, for example Brand New, Muse, The Killers; but also Alternative/Folk, like Bob Dylan, Bright Eyes, Beirut, Laura Marling.
My favourite TV-series are Scrubs, Grey's Anatomy, The Simpsons and South Park.
Some people say I've got a strange humour, and I can be very hyper, but that's just me. I mess around a lot and make weird jokes but I also like to have serious discussions and philosophize.

About my family: my father, François, is a mechanical engineer and he's Swiss. My mother, Sarah, is an occupational therapist and she's American. I also have a 14 year old brother called Nicholas who enjoys getting in as much trouble as possible.
About me: My hobbies are riding, reading, playing the flute and hanging out with friends. I've been riding for 7 years at an average of two times weekly. I love to read and will read almost anything I can get my hands on. I've been playing the flute for five years but I don't practice very often so I'm not very good at it. My best friend is my nextdoor neighbor who I've known for 15 years and we get up to all kind of crazy things when we're together. I love music, mainly Metal,Rock and Punk. My favourite bands are The Who, Megadeth and a german band called die ärzte. I enjoy going at concerts and festivals and listening to CD's or LP's. I play the E-Guitar in a band called Unfug (fooling) and I'm trying to write some own songs but I'm not very successfull.
I also like to sit in a bar or at the shore of the Rhine with some friends, watch TV or read a book.
I can even laugh about the most stupid jokes and I like spontaneous actions, above all if they're completely senseless.

Hi! My name is Floyd. I live in Thalheim wich is a small village with about 700 inhabitants near Winterthur. I'm 16 and become 17 on the 2. July . My main hobby is horse riding. Currently i'm training a 4 years old mare. But the last few years I competed quite succesfully at show jumping compettions. My other hobbies are cooking, reading and working on various things at the computer(3D-modelling, programming ect.). I also enjoy snowboarding during winter.
ReplyDeleteI live in an old framhouse together with my parents, my sister(14), a dog, two cats, 4 horses, and some fish. Most of the time after school and on weekends I spend riding or doing the stable.
I would describe myself as a rather good student. My favourite subjects are math and physics. I often do my homework during the lunch break so I have more time for my hobbies at home.
I also like going to the cinema. Although i live near Winterthur I rather go to Zurich which is the biggest city of Switzerland and 20 minutes further away than Winterthur.
I like a lot of different music styles. My favourite musician is Santana.
I've got a rather special character. I would describe myself as humorous, quite straightforward and confident. Some people tend to call me arrogant and inconsiderate but i think that's exaggerated. :P

Hello everyone! I'm Gina and attend the Kantonsschule Im Lee. I am so excited to come to NY in fall and meet all of you. I am currently 16, will become 17 in fall. I find it quite hard to describe my own character, but I'd say I am spontaneous, outgoing, sportive, open-minded, a little messy and tardy and 'almost' always to have for a joke:D I love to hang out with my friends and my family. To which belong my 2 older sisters, Alessandra(who'll also be coming to NY, as she is in the same class as I am) and Tatjana. Her boyfriend practically belongs to the family too, as he's almost always around. Then there are my parents: Yvonne and Ruedi. My entire family loves to travel and I personally would love to visit the whole world one day:D
ReplyDeleteNow concerning school I'd consider myself a minimalist, but as long as my grades get me into the next level I'm fine with it. My favourite subjects are geography and languages.
In my free time I go jogging, play the violin, go dancing(jazz) and meet my friends and at the weekend I love to party, or just chill at someone's house or outside or go to cinema. Whereas movies are also a big passion of mine. My all time favourite is Sleepless in Seattle and I love series like Sex and the CIty. I for some reason get excited by looking at beautiful houses and imagine how I'd arrange and decorate them:D I love chocolate and enjoy baking. During the winter I snowboard a lot. My style of music is very random, as it depends on my mood to what I listen to. Favourite bands are Fratellis, Beatles..

ReplyDeleteI'm Alessandra. If you have already read through all the comments then you maybe have recognised that my sister and I are both in the exchange program.
I'm the older one..I'm turning 18 in 2 days:)
She already mentioned that I love to travel, maybe that's because I'm not a big fan of switzerland. My goal is to leave switzerland after I finished school and earned some money.
I like to meet new people especially when they're from another country because I think that's more interesting.
My favourite show is "sex and the city" and it's soo much fun to watch it with my friends.
Besides that, my friends and I usually go out at the weekends partying or just chillin at home and doing wierd stuff lol
We also often cook or bake together and of course enjoy eating it after.
Sport is also important to me, doesn't matter what kind and music is just another thing i need in my life. In our home you almost always hear music from somewhere.

I live in Winterthur with my two younger brothers and my mother in a flat. We have a dog and a cat.
I love to travel, and I've been to a couple of countries like USA, South Afria, France, just to mention a few. The best thing I like is, that each place has its own curiousities and traditions.
Our class is an immersion class, that means, we have some subjects in English. at beginning it was a little weird, but you get used to it.
My favourite subjects are singing and arts. I also have piano lessons and I played violin for 9 years, but I got bored of it, so I stopped. Maybe I'll start again.
Anyway, next t0oo music, I love reading. Sometimes, I can't get my nose out of the books.
I'm born in Guatemala, a neighbour country of Mexico, and very proud of it. Because of that, I speak fluent Spanish. With my mother we only talk in Spanish, this way, we don't forget our language.
I love learning new languages. the only thing I don't really like is learning the vocabulary, but there's no way to get round it, if you want to learn it, right?

I live together with my quite big familly (2 brothers and 1 sister) in a small village on the countryside outside Winterthur. My brothers are 15 and 18 and my sister is 9 and she always wants to be in the middle of attention, that can be nerving sometimes(:
We live in a two familly-house with a big garden and a swimming pond. To our family belong also 2 cats, 3 rabbits and fishes.
In my free time I like meeting friends, go shopping, swimming, watching films, baking, playing piano or sometimes just relaxing with a good book in the hammock. I prefere mainly love stories and fantasy books. I also love music, but I don't have a certain style I prefer, it always depends on my mood(:

ReplyDeleteI'm 16 now but by the time of the exchange I'll be 17. I'm really looking forward to coming to New York because I LOVE travelling. Up to now my favorite destinaitons have been the states, Kenya and Thailnad but I like going absolutly anywhere. When I'm older I'd love to take a round-the -world trip.
When I was in 3rd grade my family moved to Chicago for 2 1/2 years, it was fantastic! I got to know the US a bit better and I loved it, so I'm really exited about coming to NY.
I live in a small sleepy village with my parents, my younger brother Pascal (13) and my cat. Our house isn't huge but it's got a nice little back yard with a small pool which is great because I love swimming.
In my free time I like going ouside to read or meet friends. I also like to bake but my cooking skills still need some pratice... I've just started fencing which is alot of fun too.I also do belly dancing but I'm not into any particular type of music, I like listening to anything. My favorite TV shows are Friends, Desprate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy,Dr. House or and any CSI.

ReplyDeleteI'm Katharina Henggeler (16). I live with my younger brother and my parents in a small attached house 10 min (by bicycle) from Winterthur city. We have a cute cat that I love very much, just like all other animals (except those that have less than two legs). So I’ve been riding horses since I was 11 years old and I really can’t imagine quitting it. Especially since two of our mares are in foal right now – one might even have already given birth by now.
My other favourite places beside the stable are the library and the beach. I read every book that I come across (and if it fits my taste (novels, detective stories and manga) a little bit). But there are only two books that I’ve read twice: Twilight and another one but I can’t remember its name anymore. I don’t watch TV that often but my favourite movie right now (it changes all the time) is Pirates of the Caribbean – The Curse of the Black Pearl.
The beach (actually everywhere near the sea) is one of my favourite places because its windy, I like the smell and I like swimming and especially diving in the sea. The waves calm me down and make me feel like everything around me is unimportant
So I’m really looking forward to come to New York and to get to know how live is on the other side of the ocean. And of course to make friends, too.

ReplyDeleteI’m Sandrine. I’m a sixteen years (but I'll turn seventeen this June) and live together with my parents, my younger sister and our cat in a flat in a village near Winterthur.
Now some things about me:
I think I’m an open-minded, cheerful and optimistic person who likes laughing and having fun.
My friends and family are very important to me. Me and my friends are doing all different kinds of things together. We go out partying, chill at home, watch a movie, cook and bake together, go to the cinema and always laugh and have a lot of fun.
We also like going to Zurich. We chill near the lake, go to Starbucks and go shopping.
With my friends I also share the affection for “sex and the city”. I love watching the series because of all the nice clothes. (I'm pretty interested in fashion.)
Mostly I’m pretty busy. I always have thousands of things to be done. For me a additional hours each day or something should get invented. ;-)
I've been dancing my whole life. I started dancing when I was six years old. During the years I’ve tried many different types of dance and at the moment I’m dancing ballet, jazz and a mix between hiphop and jazz. I’d love to take a course in Latin-American dance or Salsa.
But I also like other types of sport for example playing volleyball, go on a bicycle tour, … You can have me for lots of different sports.
Like lots of you I also love travelling. My dream job would be a work where I can travel a lot and also have contacts with lots of people all over the world.
